Here are some children's drawings of Beaulieu the Hedgehog from a Zoom workshop last week with 3rd Salisbury Sea Scouts.
Lockdown has presented plenty of well-documented problems for teachers and school children as schools wrestle with online learning. The small upside to it all is that everyone seems to have adapted to it well. But there are other groups out there unable to meet as normal such as Scouts and Guides.
Just before Christmas Simon delivered a drawing workshop featuring step-by-step drawings for Beavers to follow. It went well, and then the Beavers leader posted about it on a national Scouting forum...and things got busy.
In the last week, Simon's delivered Zoom workshops to Scout groups in Wigan, Sevenoaks, the Wirral, and Salisbury alone, and has now started taking enquiries from Guiding groups too.
The age range has been from Beavers to Venture Scouts, and have covered step-by-step drawings in order to build drawing confidence, cartooning tips and tricks, and monster making games. It's definitely a very different scenario to standing live in front of a class or group where feedback is audible and instantaneous because, on Zoom, everyone bar the leader tends to be muted. There's no walking around to see how people are doing either. But it does work, and it offers a welcome change for all those involved.
3rd Salisbury Sea Scouts had this to say:
Thank you so much for doing a session the children loved it, as did some of the parents that were in the background drawing too! We had 13 children that joined the session and they all enjoyed themselves!
Simon's offering the workshops at reduced rates for Scout and Guide groups, so if you'd like to know more, please get in touch.
