The 16.5m Ashurst Train Station mural's grand reveal occurred today. Music from Lymington Town Band, cake, ice cream, free hot drinks, games, stalls, and even a mobile farm all added to the occasion. And the sun shone too! Brilliant effort from all at Ashurst & Colbury Community Group, not least Andy Austin, who, despite injury, was still on hand to help. Stewart Wilkins at Splash Display has done an outstanding job with the large format print – it looks so incredibly vibrant. The mesh it's printed onto doesn't spoil the artwork one iota, but means that the suction generated by passing high-speed trains doesn't pull at the material. People had to gather on the bridge or opposite side of the tracks to watch the reveal, made possible by a group of scouts dropping a calico covering on a countdown from 5. Big thank you to Bryan Pass at Longdown Activity Farm for putting my name forward to do the artwork, and to all those who came to see it. It's been a grand day out!
