The Rubbish Monster Thing Children's Book Project

The end of 2018 saw the launch of The Rubbish Monster Thing, a children's book to promote the concept of waste prevention. Written and illustrated by Simon, the book has been supported with funding from Hampshire County Council who have ensured that every primary school and library in Hampshire has received a copy.

The tale sees Elsie coming across the Rubbish Monster Thing as it seeks more waste to grow even bigger, but instead Elsie explains that her family generates very little waste and so doesn't really have anything to give. She then explains the various steps they go through, from recycling to care and repair, and encourages the monster to join in which children can follow as the monster changes.

The book has been doing well, with plenty of positive feedback about the message of waste prevention, as well as for Simon's illustrations. Simon will be taking it on tour over the half-term holiday to libraries across Hampshire where children can partipate in some drawing workshops based around the book.

The book's design and publication was all done at Ceratopia and published through Ceratopia Books. If you'd like a copy then please visit the Ceratopia Books website.
