For the last couple of months, I've been illustrating a children's book for a New Zealand publisher called Treasure Beyond Measure. It's primarily a book about animal collective nouns, but there's a great environmental message too.
I decided to have a go at adapting my illustration style for this one. I tend to use hatching when I colour in Adobe Illustrator and airbrushing when I colour in Adobe Photoshop, but on this occasion, I decided to have a stab at hatching within Photoshop. The hatching is very fine on the scale of the picture so it creates some lovely blending effects that I really, really like. The downside is that it takes longer, but I think the effort is well worth it. All the pictures here are close up sections of the first few spreads. You'll have to buy the book to see the pictures in full!
