It's been a busy day at Applemore College on the edge of the New Forest, talking to students of all ages about visual storytelling. I was there to give my take on the theme, based around how I use pictures to enhance stories I've written or have been commissioned to illustrate. I introduced students to the different kinds of books I've worked on, and how I use the creative process to achieve my aims. We then gave the students the chance to have a go, either by writing a small piece of text themselves or by using something supplied, and create a rough layout for an illustration based on what they'd learnt. Considering time was tight they did very well, and I'm hoping to get to see some finished pieces that were taken home. They've already asked to return next year, so I look forward to it!
