I went along to the assembly at Orchard Infant School today to celebrate the work of the boys who took part in my lunchtime Boys' Writing Club. Each participant got one of my New Forest Friends children's books (and a Ceratopia bookmark), and got to stand up in front of the school holding their masterpieces aloft. We had stupendous soccer stories, amazing alien stories, time travel, half man-half bear adventures, interplanetary war, and spooky ghost mysteries. The idea was to help build confidence, encourage the use of adverbs and similes, and complete the project in a fixed number of lunchtime sessions. The boys did a fantastic job and are rightly proud of their results. I still particularly like "He had so much money that he was even richer than Lady Gaga". Well done, boys!
